stilts
2025
Mounted 5 x 7 and 8 x 10
Mixed Media
“stilts” began within self imposed limitations. There were materials i wanted to use; transparent paper, magazine clippings and washi tape. I was also constrained to only one hand after a minor and successful surgery, I gave myself permission to be less of a craftsman.
This immediately opened new territory; i couldn’t finesse the engineering. Concealing adhesives behind parts was too difficult. The tape became functional as well as aesthetic. When the compositions needed lines, cutting the tape was the natural option.
As the series progressed, I noticed a direction. The pieces were precarious, playful, quirky and rickety. Those words quickly guided my intent moving forward.
